It was this performance that pushed me to discover and enjoy Edith Piaf as much as I have over the course of the past year. But would it be too irreverent to say I might prefer this version? The slow, quiet, descending guitar serves the song quite well, making it more of an appropriate lament.
Version aside, I'll go out on a limb and say this is music's best melody ever written. Anyone wanna disagree?
